Pune corporators raise water supply issues at GB meeting, mayor seeks solutions | Pune News – The Times of India

Pune: Several corporators raised the issue of inadequate water supply in their respective areas at the civic body’s general body meeting on Friday. Most of them were unanimous that water disruptions were not only confined to the last two days and that citizens were not getting adequate water even when cuts were not imposed by the civic administration.Inadequate water supply, lack of pressure, irregularities in operations of valves in the pipelines and pending works in the distribution lines were among the main issues the elected representatives tabled at general body of the Pune Municipal Corporation.Mayor Manjusha Nagpure told the water supply department to look into each case and submit a time-bound plan to resolve the problems.Deputy mayor Parashuram Wadekar said, “I have been active in social issues in the area for several years. My wife was the elected representative of Bopodi. But the water issue has not been resolved completely.”Corporator Anit Ingale from Dhayri said citizens from her area were not getting adequate water supply for five to six days. Dada Kodre from the Keshavnagar-Mundhwa area said people from locality were getting water supply every alternate day. “The supply lasts for not more than 30 minutes to one hour. Every time the administration imposes a day-long water closure, it hits the overall supply for at least eight days”, Kodre said.Dhanashri Kolhe from the Dhayri area said residents receive water only for 15-20 minutes in a day. “The water quality is not good. There is a need to replace the lines in the Nanded phata and Nandoshi areas.”Corporators from Kondhwa and nearby areas said works of laying of transmission line and water distribution network were still pending. Dili Wede Patil from Bavdhan area said that the overhead tanks are not functional to full capacities. Many corporators also want the civic administration to take action against developers not providing water to flat owners. BJP corporator Sachin Dodke said despite being mentioned in agreements, the developers or builders do not provide water to flat owners. The PMC should take action against such developers.City engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar said that there was a plan to publish the affidavits on the PMC website for the benefit of citizens. The mayor told the administration to draft a policy on water supply and table it before the general body.SOPs for water tankers by next weekAdditional municipal commissioner Pavneet Kaur said the administration was coming out with the SOPs for all tankers supplying water to housing societies in the city. Registration of tanker (including private tankers) with PMC will be mandatory, all tanker operators will have to disclose the source of water and every tanker will have a GPS system installed for monitoring. The draft of the SOP is in its final stages and it will be out by next week, Kaur said.
