Mumbai: “I don’t see him worried any time,” says Sunil Jain about his son Vihaan. For most fathers that may sound reassuring. For Sunil, it reflects something far deeper.Vihaan Jain, a student of Jai Hind College who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder, scored 73.33% in the Arts stream this year — a result that has left his entire family beaming with pride. “He has a rare progressive disease,” says his father, explaining that Vihaan stopped walking at 15. His son’s calm outlook to life though has become a source of strength for the family. “As parents we were worried during exams, but he was never worried,” Jain says. Meanwhile, Vihaan credits his motivation to his parents’ determination to ensure he continues his education despite physical challenges. Looking ahead, he hopes to build a career in graphics and animation, a field where he can channel his creativity. His father has no doubts about his potential. “His mind is very sharp, he grasps things very fast,” he says. Beyond academics, Vihaan is an avid reader of fiction and a quiet writer. “He keeps writing stories on his mobile phone, but never shows us,” Jain adds.
