Two men riding bikes were killed in a head-on collision on the Uran-Mora stretch of road on Monday before 3 am.

In another accident involving a pickup vehicle, the driver was killed and four occupants were severely injured after the driver crashed into the rear of a moving container trailer on Palaspe-JNPT road on the bridge opposite Dombala college at Karanjade, Panvel taluka, on Tuesday around 12.30 am.API Swapnil Kedar of Uran police station said that on Monday June 1 around 3 am, a man residing in Uran came to Uran police station and reported that two bikers met with an accident on Uran-Mora road and were lying unconscious and severely injured. A police team went with him to the accident spot about 2 kms from the police station.Both bikes were severely damaged due to the head-on collision and the two riders were lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries. Both sustained grievous head injuries. While two helmets were found at the accident spot, police said it could not be confirmed whether they were wearing the helmet or had hanged it on their bike’s handle.API Kedar said, “The injured men were rushed in an ambulance to Indira Gandhi rural government hospital, Uran, where the doctors declared them brought dead on arrival. They were identified asMahesh Prahlad Chandekar (35), a resident of Dongaraali village, Uran taluka, who was riding from Uran towards Mora and the Bullet bike rider Nikhil Deepak Kukade (34), a contract worker resided in Shiv Sagar apartment opposite Naga police line, Nagav road in Uran. Kukade is a contract worker. was riding in the opposite direction from Mora towards Uran. An FIR was registered against both the deceased bikers under BNS sections for causing death by rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, act endangering life or personal safety of others and rash driving or riding on a public way along with MV Act for dangerous and reckless driving.“In the accident on Palaspe-JNPT road, the deceased driver of the pickup vehicle was identified as Jaipal Khopatkar (26), a resident of Dighi village, Shrivardhan in Raigad district. The four injured occupants were identified as Krushna Chikati (38), his siblings Kamlakar Chikati (34), and their friends Kashinath Bhangoji (38) and Avinash Gund (34). Panvel city police registered an FIR against the deceased driver under relevant sections of BNS and MV Act for reckless driving causing death and endangering life or personal safety of others.
