Pune: Ordering a cake online to celebrate the birthday of her husband cost a private school teacher (51) Rs 1.31 lakh after she contacted a fraudulent number to check order status on Jan 31.The woman lodged a complaint against cybercrooks with the Hinjewadi police on Tuesday.An officer from the Hinjewadi police said the woman ordered the cake through a food delivery application and paid Rs 427. The order was expected within an hour. When she did not get the order, the woman searched for the food delivery app’s customer care number online and contacted it.“She told the receiver to refund her money as she did not get the order on time. The man assured the woman to return her money and told her to keep her cellphone on. He also told her to make some changes in the settings,” the officer said.He said the woman received a message on her cellphone stating please wait for the refund on her cellphone. The woman became suspicious and contacted her husband through another cellphone.Her husband instantly went online and checked her two bank accounts, only to find that Rs 1.31 lakh was siphoned off. “The woman had filed an online complaint application. She, however, approached us on Tuesday and lodged a complaint. We have sought transaction details of her two accounts,” he said.
