Thane: State tribal development minister Ashok Uike announced the state would document and publish the biography of revolutionary Raghoji Bhangre and introduce his legacy to the younger generations through school textbooks.Calling Bhangre’s sacrifice “unforgettable,” Uike said the state has launched the Raghoji Bhangre Scholarship to promote awareness about the ideals of the revolutionary among new-age students. The scholarship will be awarded to meritorious students at project, divisional and state levels. A statement from the district administration quoting the minister said that soon the govt schemes and ashram schools under the tribal development department will also be named after revolutionaries as a mark of recognition. “Efforts are underway to compile the histories of 72 tribal icons. Research is being conducted through dedicated academic centres at the university level, with publications already in progress. From next year, the state plans to scale up official commemorations to allow wider public participation at historic sites,” he said.Member of Parliament Hemant Savara said Bhangre’s contribution to protecting “jal, jungle and jameen” remains immortal, and urged all govt departments to take responsibility for preserving his legacy. Sanjay Kelkar said the Thane jail premises have witnessed the sacrifices of several revolutionaries and stressed the need to connect people with the history of leaders from Vinayak Damodar Savarkar to Bhangre.District collector Shrikrishna Panchal said a proposal to construct a memorial of the revolutionary would be presented before the planning committee.
