Pune: A 77-year-old man, retired as senior engineer from Central Railways and residing in Mundhwa, lost Rs 26.7 lakh after falling for handsome returns bait of cybercrooks.The man had tendered a complaint application to the Pune cyber police about two months ago. After verification, a formal FIR was registered on Friday with the Mundhwa police station. The fraud happened in a span of five months between May and Oct last year.According to the police, the retired engineer was at home when he received a message stating that he could earn a handsome profit by investing in a pharma company. The suspects promised a quick profit of Rs 20,000 on the investment of Rs 80,000 to the investors.The suspects, the police said, asked him to invest as much as possible in the company to earn a good profit within a few days. After this, the suspects shared details of 17 bank accounts with him. The 77-year-old transferred a collective sum of Rs 26.7 lakh to these accounts.After two months of investing the sum, he contacted the cellphone number with which the cybercrooks coordinated with the victim, but in vain.
