‘Refund flyer declared as no-show for cancelled flight’ | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: A consumer district redressal commission has directed the defunct Go Airlines (India) Ltd, which shut in May 2023, to refund Rs 63,161 to a passenger with 8% interest since Dec 26, 2019, for a last-minute flight cancellation. It said the airline itself acknowledged it cancelled the flight and offered a refund but later said it merely rescheduled and termed the flyer a ‘no-show’.Complainant Pradeep Virdi booked group tickets from Goa to Chandigarh. Three hours before departure, the airline cancelled the flight, offering refund or rescheduling. Citing urgency, Virdi took a more expensive flight and was later denied a refund. The rules didn’t mandate refunds for delays caused by circumstances beyond its control, such as weather, ATC curbs or other operational constraints, the airline said. Commission president Pradeep Kadu and member Gauri Kapse said no documentary evidence of this claim was shown. —Swati Deshpande
