Panel for more transparency in transfer of BMC engineers | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: After the BMC cancelled the transfers of more than 120 civic engineers following allegations of corruption, the civic body has now constituted a special committee to enhance transparency in the internal transfer process for engineers. To ensure greater transparency, the transfer process will be carried out online and a software is being developed for the purpose. About 4,500 engineers are currently employed across various departments within the BMC and a special committee has been constituted by the BMC administration to introduce greater transparency in the internal transfer process for these engineers. The BMC administration has announced that this committee, chaired by director (engineering and services), will be responsible for making decisions regarding these transfers. In preparation for future transfer procedures, a specialised software will be developed—modelled after systems currently utilised by the state govt specifically in transport and veterinary departments. Through this platform, the entire transfer process for engineers will be conducted online, ensuring complete transparency in the proceedings. The BMC had cancelled the transfers of more than 120 civic engineers following allegations of corruption, six months after the transfers were initiated and subsequently stayed. Last month, mayor Ritu Tawde had asked the civic body to “take note of the issue and take appropriate action” regarding the transfers. The transfers were initiated in Oct 2025 and the transfer orders were stayed by the then municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. tnn
