Mumbai Police sack constable over negligence in Baba Siddique murder case | Mumbai News – The Times of India


Mumbai: Mumbai Police have terminated the service of constable Shyam Sonawane, who was deputed as the bodyguard of former NCP leader Baba Siddique on charges of dereliction of duty.Siddique (66) was shot dead by three men outside his MLA son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra on October 12, 2024 night. Sonawane, attached to the Protection and Security branch of Mumbai Police, had been deputed for Siddique’s security. According to officials, Sonawane was suspended and a departmental inquiry against him was initiated. The inquiry found Sonawane guilty of negligence and irresponsible in the discharge of his duty. Sonawane was then served a show-cause notice, asking why he should not be removed from service. Police then issued him a termination letter, which he accepted on May 2. He has been dismissed for dereliction of duty.
