NEW DELHI: Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan has spoken about the investigation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) into his conduct during Pakistan’s recent tour of England.Rizwan said he is fully cooperating with the investigation and is waiting for it to be completed.“I am fully cooperating with the investigation. I am waiting for the investigation to be completed,” Rizwan told Samaa TV.The 34-year-old also indicated that he may speak to the media about the matter once the investigation is over.
Why is Mohammad Rizwan being investigated?
According to reports in the Pakistani media, the investigation involving Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq is linked to allegations of information being leaked from Pakistan’s dressing room and other matters related to the team’s England tour.Rizwan and Imam were sent back to Pakistan during the tour after the first two Tests. They were later questioned by the NCCIA. The NCCIA comes under the purview of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.Reports in the Pakistani media have claimed that a PCB security officer confiscated Rizwan’s phone and transferred its data for the NCCIA investigation.The agency is reportedly examining the mobile phone data of both Rizwan and Imam.The investigation could also include the players’ correspondence during the tour, including messages and calls. Their financial transactions, including bank records, are also reportedly being examined.Rizwan and Imam had earlier appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore and were questioned for around two hours over the alleged dressing-room leaks and issues related to the England tour.
Rizwan struggled in England
Rizwan was among seven players ordered to return to Pakistan by the PCB after the team’s defeat in the second Test at Lord’s. The wicketkeeper-batter struggled for runs in the first two Tests, scoring 61 runs in four innings.Pakistan suffered a 0-3 Test series whitewash against England.Pakistan lost the first Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs. They then suffered defeats by 194 runs and eight wickets in the second and third Tests at Lord’s and Edgbaston respectively.The result left Pakistan at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings.
