Pune: City Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Saturday visited the Kareli water purification plant under the Bhama Askhed project after residents from Dhanori, Tingrenagar and Nagpur Chawl complained about receiving foul-smelling and yellowish water over the past few days.During the visit, Nagpure told the water supply department to take immediate corrective measures and address all lapses to improve the quality of supply to the affected areas. Officials said operations at the plant had been disrupted due to frequent power outages caused by ongoing infrastructure works in the vicinity. In response, the mayor told them to coordinate with MSEDCL to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the pumping unit.Former deputy mayor Siddharth Dhende, a resident of Nagpur Chawl, also highlighted the issue recently and warned of protests if the administration failed to act.“Nagpure has directed the officials to send water samples for laboratory testing. She also announced plans to deploy underwater drones to inspect the functioning of the jackwell at Bhama Askhed and the purification plant,” an official said.Meanwhile, officials from the PMC water supply department said the water was safe for consumption. “Additional steps are being taken to eliminate any factors that could be causing contamination,” the official said.
