Pune: In a move to strengthen the use of the regional language in administration, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) law committee has passed a resolution granting two additional increments to employees holding a master’s degree (M.A) in Marathi.While the majority of civic work is already conducted in Marathi, officials stated the initiative aims to refine official documentation, correspondence, and complex governance processes. The proposal will soon be placed before the general body meeting for final approval.Law committee members noted that employees with advanced qualifications in the language are better equipped for high-level drafting, precise translation, and effective communication within the administration.Officials said that the incentive will also encourage current staffers to pursue higher education in the language.Sujata Borate, chairperson of the law committee, emphasised that the primary goal is to ensure the “extensive and effective” use of Marathi in municipal functions.“By offering these increments, we aim to encourage academic excellence in the language, ultimately making the administration more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly,” Borate said.The resolution aligns with the state’s broader state-level mission to promote Marathi as a language of knowledge, science, and governance. This includes developing a simpler administrative lexicon and preserving regional dialects while ensuring the language remains the primary medium for employment and technology.
