Kalyan: In a major step towards improving healthcare facilities in civic-run hospitals, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a government medical college in Ambernath. The agreement was formalised in the presence of senior civic officials and elected representatives, including KDMC municipal commissioner Abhinav Goel, mayor Harshali Chaudhari and deputy mayor Rahul Damle.Officials said the collaboration will ensure the availability of expert doctors, trained staff, and improved infrastructure, significantly upgrading healthcare delivery and providing advanced and critical care services to residents. The MoU covers key civic hospitals, including Rukminibai and Gauripada hospitals in Kalyan West, and Shaktidham Hospital in Kalyan East. The initiative is expected to enhance the quality of medical services, while also providing practical training opportunities to medical students. The state government had approved the establishment of a new government medical college in Ambernath with an intake capacity of 100 students, along with an attached 430-bed hospital. The partnership will enable students to gain hands-on clinical experience. The agreement, valid for seven years, will be implemented in phases. Initially, Rukminibai Hospital will be affiliated with the medical college, where specialist outpatient services will begin, followed by the introduction of an intensive care unit (ICU). In the next phase, Gauripada Hospital will be utilised to start specialised departments such as gynaecology and paediatrics after staffing requirements are met. Finally, Shaktidham Hospital will also be brought under the arrangement, subject to necessary approvals, with multiple departments being made operational.
