Pune: The Paud police on Tuesday arrested an ice cream vendor on the charge of molesting a 14-year-old girl in a village in Mulshi taluka on Monday.The suspect, Pintu Shivkumar (28), currently resides at Sus. He is originally from Kannauj district in Uttar Pradesh. The police arrested him under Section 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.An officer from the Paud police said the suspect used to sell ice cream door-to-door on his two-wheeler. On Monday evening, when he went to the minor’s village, the girl and her cousin approached him to buy ice cream. “While giving ice cream, the suspect improperly touched her. The girls immediately raised an alarm and fled towards the home of the girl,” the officer said.The suspect had also escaped in the meantime. The officer said the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents, who then searched for the suspect and nabbed him. “They handed over the suspect to us,” he said.The officer said the girl’s medical examination was conducted. “We are collecting evidence and interrogating the suspect,” the officer said.
