Veteran Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan recently shared an amusing anecdote about his unexpected performance at Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding reception in Delhi. Maan revealed that he was completely unaware that he had been invited to perform at the reception, despite his close bond with Virat.
Recalling the event, Maan told Mashable India, “Virat loves me. That day, I was thinking that Virat has called everyone but even though he loves me, he hasn’t called me.Because I didn’t know (that I was going to perform there). I just knew that I had a performance in Delhi but I didn’t know that it was for his reception.”
Maan explained that the surprise was planned by Virat himself. “Virat had already said that this is a surprise. The organisers were specifically told not to tell Gurdas Maan. He should only know once he reaches the venue. And here I was thinking that he hasn’t called me, and I was completely surprised,” the singer recalled.

Once Maan arrived and realized the special occasion, he was taken aback and immediately took to the stage, delivering a memorable performance. He also shared a heartwarming moment from the reception, stating that Virat was seen translating the Punjabi lyrics into Anushka’s ear while he sang. Videos from the reception, featuring the singer’s performance, had gone viral on social media at the time.
Following this unforgettable experience, Maan mentioned that his set from the reception became a popular request at subsequent weddings in Delhi. “People started asking me to perform the same set I did at Virat and Anushka’s wedding,” he laughed.
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, who tied the knot in Italy in December 2017, have since welcomed two children. Their daughter Vamika was born in 2021, and they recently welcomed their son, Akaay, earlier this year.
