Empty local train derails at Dombivli, peak hour services hit on CR | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Kalyan: Suburban services on Central Railway were disrupted for nearly three hours on Monday morning after a coach of an empty local train derailed on the down line at Platform No. 1A of Dombivli railway station during peak hours. Railway officials said the empty rake was heading towards Kalyan when one of its compartments slipped off the tracks at around 8.10am. As the train was not carrying passengers, no injuries were reported. The incident affected at least two down line local trains, which were subsequently diverted to minimise disruption. However, the sudden disruption had impacted suburban services, leaving several commuters stranded and delayed during the busy office rush. Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Dr Swapnil Nila, confirmed that the derailment involved an empty local train. “Two trains on the down line were impacted due to the incident but were later diverted. The up line services, particularly those operating from Kalyan to Mumbai during the peak hours, remained unaffected,” he said. Railway officials added that the re-railment was successfully completed at around 10.50am, following which train services on the affected track gradually resumed.
