Cillian Murphy Returns as Tommy Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Production Begins | – Times of India

Cillian Murphy is returning as everyone’s favourite gangster- Tommy Shelby in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie that entered production today.
The first look of the actor, reprising his iconic role, was posted online signalling the start of the film’s production. Murphy, fresh out of his Oscar win for ‘Oppenheimer‘, reunited with Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight on the film sets.
The upcoming film, directed by Tom Harper, marks the next chapter in the British gangster saga that premiered in 2013 and went on for six seasons until his conclusion in 2022.

The cast, led by Murphy, is set to include Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson with more casting details expected soon. Past series stars Paul Anderson, Tom Hardy, Helen McCrory, and Joe Cole were central to the show’s critical success, though not all have been confirmed for the film.
In a teaser post, Netflix announced, “By order of the Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby is back.”

The show’s gritty depiction of 1920s Birmingham gang life, helmed by Murphy’s intense portrayal of Shelby, received widespread acclaim, but never won an Emmy Award.

While Knight has kept details of the film’s plot under wraps, he confirmed at the story will be set during World War II, hinting at a high-stakes narrative. “It’s really good,” Knight teased, though no further specifics were revealed.

Murphy’s next project, Small Things Like These, which examines the horrors of Ireland’s abusive church workhouses for unwed mothers, is slated for release on November 1st in the UK and November 8th in the US.
