Pune: The state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a woman assistant police inspector attached to the Bavdhan police on the charge of demanding a bribe of Rs50,000 for not arresting the complainant’s wife in a cheating case registered against them. The API had already taken a bribe of Rs50,000 in March this year and was forcing the complainant for an additional Rs 50,000. After the negotiation, the API agreed to accept Rs 45,000.“The ACB had verified the officer’s demand for a bribe in March this year. But, the trap failed. Following which, we registered the case against the officer with the Bavdhan police and arrested her,” an officer from the ACB told TOI.He said that Bavdhan police had registered a case of cheating against the complainant and his wife. The police had arrested the complainant in the cheating case. He was later released on the bail. The latter had approached the API, who was investigating the case, requested her for not to arrest his wife.“The API had taken Rs 50,000 from him for not arresting his wife and for not submitting the chargesheet to the court immediately. When she demanded Rs 50,000 more, the complainant approached us,” he said.The officer said that a house search of the officer was carried out. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
