Asked to move car causing jam, 3 beat up traffic constable in Kalyan | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Kalyan: A driver who parked his car on the road and his two aides allegedly assaulted a traffic police constable after being asked to move the vehicle responsible for a traffic bottleneck in Kalyan on Saturday. An FIR has been filed against the alleged assailants and a notice served as per the law.Police sources said this was the third such attack on traffic police personnel in the past few months in Kalyan. Traffic constable Devidas Waghere was manning heavy traffic on Kalyan-Malang Road in Nandivli on Saturday evening. He noticed that a car parked on the road was worsening the situation and asked the driver to move it aside. The driver, however, lost his cool and along with two accomplices, he began arguing with the constable, said police. The situation escalated, and the trio allegedly abused and assaulted Waghere in full public view. A video of the attack was widely circulated on social media. Hemant Gaurav, senior inspector, Kolsewadi police station, where the FIR was filed, said, “The preliminary inquiry indicates that the dispute began after the constable asked the accused to move their car, which was adding to an already severe jam. The three became aggressive; they verbally abused the constable and then assaulted him. They were served a notice and let go as the offence carries a jail term of less than seven years.
