Pune: The city police will deploy extensive bandobast and various surveillance measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination on Sunday.According to police estimates, over 21,000 aspirants will appear for the re-examination on Sunday at centres located across Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Pune Rural.Amitesh Kumar, Pune police commissioner, told TOI, “We have deployed a strong bandobast at the examination centres. We will also use several surveillance measures to prevent any untoward incident during the NEET re-examination.”“The city has 34 examination centres, and security arrangements were reviewed for all of them on Saturday. We have deployed six police personnel for every 240 candidates appearing in the re-exam,” said Prashant Amrutkar, deputy commissioner of police (special branch).“The verification and frisking will be done by the police personnel on duty. In addition, the entire examination process will be videotaped. We will use CCTV cameras and other electronic surveillance systems to prevent any untoward incident in and around the centres,” he added. The extensive police deployment came after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in May arrested Latur-based paediatrician Dr Manoj Shirure, Pune-based physics faculty member Tejas Harshadkumar Shah, junior college teachers Manisha Havaldar and Manisha Mandhare, and beauty parlour owner Manisha Waghmare for their alleged connection with the NEET 2026 paper leak case. The agency also arrested a prominent coaching institute owner, Shivraj Motegaonkar.
