Pune: An argument over a petty issue at a fuel pump in Pimple Nilakh turned violent on Sunday night after five youths allegedly attacked two others with sharp weapons, leaving them grievously injured.The Sangvi police later arrested three of the assailants on the charge of attempting to murder an 18-year-old youth and his cousin. The police have also detained their two minor accomplices. The youth’s father lodged a complaint with the Sangvi police.An officer from the Sangvi police said the complainant is in the construction business, while his son runs an ice cream parlour in Pimple Nilakh. According to the complainant, around 10pm on Sunday, his nephew called and informed him about the attack on his son and himself, the officer said.He said that, according to the complainant, the youth had gone to a petrol pump in Pimple Nilakh to refill petrol on Sunday night when he had an argument with the accused over a petty issue. The complainant’s son then called his cousin and asked him to come to a nearby eatery in the area.“The accused, who were following them, reached the spot and called four more accomplices. They attacked the complainant’s son with an iron rod. One of them assaulted him with a sharp weapon. When his cousin tried to intervene, the accused attacked him as well,” the officer said.The officer said that when local residents started gathering at the spot, the accused threatened them, claiming that they were the ‘bhai’ of the area, and fled on motorcycles.“Tension gripped the area after the incident. Shopowners immediately downed their shutters,” the officer said.He said the police have registered a case under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 189, 190 and 191 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.“We have arrested three accused and detained their two minor accomplices. Our investigation is underway,” he said.
