Pune: Cybercrooks duped a Wakad-based woman (47) of Rs 24.28 lakh in an online task fraud between Oct and Nov last year under the pretext of completing online tasks.The woman lodged a complaint with the Wakad police on Thursday.An officer from the Wakad police said the crooks contacted the woman through a cellphone messaging app and assured her that she would earn good money through their firm upon completing tasks online. “Initially, the crooks transferred meager amounts to the woman’s bank account and gained her confidence,” the officer said.He said the crooks then lured the woman to invest in the prepaid tasks to earn more money. The woman, within a month, transferred Rs 24.28 lakh to several bank accounts provided to her. When she did not get the money, she started pursuing the crooks. “She realised that it was a fraud when the crooks demanded Rs 23 lakh more. The woman stopped responding to them and lodged an online complaint,” he said.The officer said after the preliminary investigations, a case was registered. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
