Thane: A 22-year-old tempo driver suffered serious injuries after he apparently lost control over his vehicle while descending the Nitin Company flyover on Mumbai–Nashik Highway, leading to a rear-end collision involving six vehicles, earlier this week. The incident brought traffic to a standstill for some time on one of the city’s busiest arterial routes connecting Ghodbunder and Samruddhi highway with Mumbai. The accident was reported around 1 pm when Sheikh Shabir Mahmood was driving the tempo and descending the bridge. “Apparently there was less traffic on the flyover which probably explains why the tempo must be speeding. However, vehicles at the spot where the flyover ended were moving bumper to bumper. The tempo driver must have failed to control his vehicle and rear-ended another tempo moving ahead of it which in turn collided with few other vehicles that were in front of it,” explained a police official. The driver sustained serious injuries to his limbs and was shifted to a Thane govt hospital.
