Mumbai: In a circular, the state traffic chief has given strict instructions to traffic police personnel serving across Maharashtra to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, or face action. The circular, signed by additional director general of police Pravin Salunke, was issued on Thursday. The circular notes that on an average, about 35% to 40% of victims in fatal crashes every year are bike riders or occupants. Except Mumbai and Nagpur, enforcement campaigns for helmet-wearing are not satisfactorily carried out by traffic personnel in other divisions.
