The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld state governments’ right to levy royalty on mineral-bearing land.
In landmark 8:1 verdict a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud ruled a royalty is not the same as a tax; Justice BV Nagarathna delivered a dissenting verdict.
