Pune: A 26-year-old security guard at a housing society in Mohammadwadi was assaulted by two men on Thursday evening after he refused them entry.The incident occurred around 7.30 pm outside the Ganga Kingston Housing Society. According to the police, the guard stopped the duo because they were not residents and were attempting to force their way in through the exit gate. When the guard denied them access, the men allegedly picked up a stick and struck him on the head.The assault was captured on the society’s CCTV cameras. The injured guard was rushed to a hospital, where he received six to seven stitches for his head injury. Following his complaint, the Kale Padal police registered a case against the two suspects. They were arrested on Friday and identified as Arvind Vinayak Gade (21) and Gangapur Mahadev Gawai (22).Senior police inspector Mansingh Patil told TOI, “The accused did not clarify whom they wanted to meet and insisted on entering the premises. When stopped, they attacked the guard.”The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who claimed that such nuisance has become common in the area. Jaymala Dhankikar, a resident, noted that the assailants were attempting to enter through the exit gate and mentioned that the society has previously faced issues with trespassers climbing compound walls.“We have previously reported the movement of suspected drug peddlers and unidentified loiterers in the area,” Dhankikar said. “While police patrolling had initially reduced these incidents, the problem seems to be resurfacing.”Another resident, Anzar Rade Deshmukh, alleged that the attackers appeared to be inebriated. “The guard was simply doing his duty. No outsider is allowed entry without confirmation from a flat owner, yet these men tried to force their way through the wrong gate,” he said. He added that no resident has identified the men as their guests.Residents also flagged a broader decline in the neighborhood’s safety due to rapid commercial development. They reported frequent late-night disturbances involving loud music from cars, bike racing, and clashes between groups on the public roads outside the society.“While no society member has been injured in these street clashes yet, they create a climate of fear. We urge the police to step up patrolling and crack down on this late-night nuisance,” Deshmukh added.
