Sanjay Leela Bhansali clarifies Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Love And War’ is not ‘Sangam Remake’: ‘Why would I?’ – Times of India


Sanjay Leela Bhansali led to immense excitement among fans as he announced his collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor after ‘Saawariya’. This collaboration is happening againa after almost 18 years and the more exciting part is that the movie also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. Bhansali’s last film with Alia, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ got immense love and fans are waiting to explore what they have this time around.Meanwhile, Vicky’s first movie with SLB is something everyone is excited for. There were several reports which suggested that this movie, ‘Love And War‘ is a remake of ‘Sangam’.
‘Sangam’ starring Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar and Vyjayanthimala had released in 1964. In a recent interview, Bhansali has steered clear of rumours of the film being a remake of ‘Sangam’. He said, “You should not remake Sholay or Mother India. So, why would I remake Sangam?”
He further revealed the ‘Love And War’ is a very special film to him. But here’s the thing. It will not have any period setting, extravagant costumes or grand sets. “It’s contemporary. The music is different. It’s a new space for me, and I’m enjoying it.”
Bhansali added that he’s excited to collaborate with Ranbir after so long, meanwhile, for Alia he feels that she is a powerhouse and there’s a lot more left to be tapped into her. The filmmaker added that he understands the pressure which comes with him making a film, especially with a cast like this. However, he won’t take the audience for granted. “It’s a difficult film for me, so I’m being careful. I won’t take my actors, myself, or the audience for granted,” said SLB.
Bhansali’s last project was the web-series ‘Heeramandi’.
