Rain to abate from today, dry weather likely from tomorrow | Pune News – The Times of India

Pune: After days of intense, short-duration thundershowers, relief is in sight for Pune, with rain activity expected to reduce from Saturday and give way to largely dry conditions from Sunday, said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official. The IMD official said that there is no rainfall warning for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan from Sunday. He added that IMD has predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C between April 5 and 9. For Pune, IMD has forecast mainly clear skies becoming partly clear skies toward afternoon/evening from Sunday. No rain has been forecast for the city from Sunday, the official said.Independent forecaster Abhijit Modak said rainfall activity is tapering off in Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune. “There was some rainfall in some spots in teh region on Friday, but it will stop from Saturday,” he said.He said that the system responsible for the spurt in rain is not weakening but shifting geographically. “The system is not weakening; it is moving eastwards. Its impact will now be seen over regions like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur,” Modak said.He said such systems influence different parts of the state sequentially. “First, the impact is over western Maharashtra, then shifts east. For western Maharashtra, including Pune, Friday was the last day of influence,” he said, adding that broader forecasts indicating rainfall across the state till April 6-7 do not always capture this area-wise progression.Modak said the current spell was part of a larger week-long pattern he had outlined earlier. “Till April 3, the impact was over western Maharashtra and ghat regions, after which it shifts to Marathwada and then Vidarbha, continuing till around April 6,” he said. With the system moving away, he said weather conditions will turn clearer over the weekend, bringing a noticeable dip in temperatures. “Once the western disturbance moves away, clear skies and north-easterly winds will lead to a drop in temperatures. Minimum temperatures in Pune could fall to around 14–15°C on Sunday and Monday,” he said, adding that such drops can occur in April under specific conditions. He said, “From April 10, normal summer conditions will return, with max temperatures rising to around 38–40°C, especially in east Pune areas like Lohegaon,” he said.Modak added that no immediate rainfall activity is visible after this spell. “The next rainfall, if any, may be after April 15, but it is too early to say. Forecasts beyond a week are not reliable,” he said.
