Navi Mumbai: The city’s sports infrastructure has been given a budget boost of Rs 40 crore, paving the way for construction of the sports complex at Ghansoli sector-13 by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The civic body owns 36 acres of land for the sports complex. The NMMC estimates that the sports complex including indoor stadium and peripheral area development will cost Rs 1,500 crore. The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority has accorded a coastal regulatory zone green signal to the project. The city centre of the Indian Institute of Architects has offered its help for a better design. The civic body’s town planning department has obtained the plan approval for the proposed sports complex on plot number 1. Accordingly, the detailed project report has been prepared. The civic body proposes to complete the project in three years. The civic body hopes that by boosting the overall sporting infrastructure, the number of sportspersons will increase. Kaushal Jadia, the former chairman of the architects body said, “Our association is ready to provide all types of assistance to the NMMC for the sports complex. The DPR is ready but the NMMC should put in their best effort to have top-notch designs from across India. Many welcome this first step towards budget allocation for the sports complex.”The budgetary allocation made has further fuelled the interest among property buyers to invest in the area. Ghansoli sector-11 resident, Sandeep Latambale said, “We had purchased our flat keeping in mind the upcoming sports complex. The aspirations of our children to get the best sporting infrastructure at our doorstep will be fulfilled.”
