Monsters star Cooper Koch eyes Patrick Bateman role in new American Psycho adaptation | English Movie News – Times of India

Following his breakout performance in the portrayal of Erik Menendez in the TV movie Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Cooper Koch is looking to tread new grounds.
At the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on October 19, 2024, Koch announced that he was excited to play the iconic character of Patrick Bateman in the new film adaptation of American Psycho.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Koch said, “Luca’s doing American Psycho, so I think I can do Patrick Bateman.” It is a career-defining moment for Koch because he confessed that he had never acted out a serial killer on screen. “I think I could do it,” he said, remarking that he was ready for darker and more demanding roles.
The Hollywood adaptation that was supposed to be the direct remake of the original 2000 film with Christian Bale as the notorious investment banker and serial killer Patrick Bateman, Bret Easton Ellis’s bestselling novel, first published in 1991, will receive a new vision without being a literal remake. The author Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 book apparently has been commissioned for Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino.
The actor who has been lauded for the work that he’s done on series Monsters and horror film They/Them said that the career hadn’t really slowed since his portrayal of Erik Menendez. “Things are coming in, things are moving, things are happening, taking meetings, and the needle is threading so we’ll see,” the actor said while hinting at new opportunities that are on the horizon.
While nothing is confirmed at this point, Koch having an interest in Bateman and his emerging career is promising. In the interview, he was also quick to say that of all the releases this year, his favorite was Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, which boasts Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.
