Mallika Sherawat has recently opened up about her life as a single woman, expressing her contentment with this phase and the freedom it brings. The actress, known for her memorable performances in films such as ‘Murder‘ and ‘Welcome’, made a comeback to the Bollywood scene with her latest film, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘, co-starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri.
In a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel, Sherawat shared her thoughts on being single. She affirmed, “Yes,” when asked if she was enjoying her single status, adding, “Jahan mann aaya chal diye. (Wherever I want, I can go) That’s what I am loving.” This sentiment reflects a broader theme of self-empowerment and personal freedom, emphasizing that one must be selective when entering into committed relationships. According to Sherawat, “A person has to be worthy of someone’s time” before pursuing a deeper connection.
While Mallika has enjoyed significant fame, she has also faced her fair share of negativity and trolling. In the same interview, the ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’ actress recounted the backlash she faced for her role in ‘Murder’, particularly the public outrage over its racy content. She vividly remembered an incident where she appeared on national television with Mahesh Bhatt. During the interview, a news anchor recited the song’s lyrics and asked her, “Sharam nahi aayi (Didn’t you feel ashamed)?” to which she confidently replied, “No, I didn’t feel ashamed. In fact, I had a blast.” She emphasized that the film’s impact is still felt today, stating, “We have used erotica for box office… and we’re still talking about ‘Murder’ even 20 years later”
Mallika also discussed the negative repercussions of her bold role in ‘Murder’, stating, “One negative thing was that people thought that if Mallika can do such bold scenes on screen, then what’s the problem in coming with us?” She emphasized the confusion between her on-screen persona and real life, saying, “I didn’t understand that your life on screen and your personal life are two completely different things. This was a big, big hurdle for me.”
As she continues to embrace singlehood and navigate the complexities of fame, Mallika’s comeback film, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, was released in theaters on October 11, 2024.
