Ulhasnagar: Vithalwadi police in Ulhasnagar have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly posing as a senior officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and cheating several people by promising them jobs in the agency.The accused, identified as Raju Pattekar, allegedly impersonated an IPS officer and lured victims, most of them women, with assurances of securing employment in the CBI. Police said he charged amounts ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh from each victim.According to officials, after collecting money, the accused neither provided jobs nor returned the money. In one case, when one victim approached him to recover money, he allegedly made her do household chores at his residence, including cooking and taking care of his children, but still failed to refund the amount. When victims threatened to file a case, the accused threatened them back, saying that if they file a complaint, he will not return the money.However, when senior police inspector Ashok Koli learnt about the scam, he took cognisance of the incident and registered the offence and arrested the accused. During the investigation, police also recovered six walkie-talkies, fake govt seals, stamps, and forged documents bearing the CBI name, including bogus appointment letters, from his possession.Pattekar was produced before a court, which remanded him to four days of police custody. Police are now conducting a detailed probe to ascertain the total number of victims and the extent of the fraud. The case has created a stir in the Ulhasnagar area.
