Madhu Chopra shares how Priyanka Chopra faced criticism and mistreated for joining Miss World Pageant and promoting ‘nari shoshan’ | – Times of India

Priyanka Chopra‘s mother, Madhu Chopra recently shared how her daughter was treated differently and criticised after winning Miss World pageant.
On Something Bigger Show, Madhu shared that after Priyanka won Miss World, there was resistance in her hometown of Bareilly. Beauty pageants were criticised for allegedly objectifying women, and people weren’t ready to celebrate her victory. Despite this, the authorities allowed Priyanka to visit only the Army area and hold a welcome party for military officers, excluding civilians. Despite the lack of support from her home state, Priyanka remained unfazed.

The star mother also expressed her disappointment over the reaction from Bareilly, saying that some people impose misguided beliefs. She emphasized that Priyanka never compromised and faced no oppression, achieving success on her own terms. Madhu questioned why something so beautiful, like the opportunity given to women, was being criminalized instead of celebrated.

Madhu acknowledged that beauty pageants can have both positive and negative aspects. She explained that while they can be aspirational, some girls may make poor choices when they don’t succeed. She emphasized that only those who are strong in their beliefs and confident should pursue pageants, as life offers many opportunities and nothing is “do or die.”
Madhu highlighted the difference in reactions between Bareilly and Mumbai. While Priyanka faced resistance in her hometown, Mumbai welcomed her with excitement, with people eager to sign her for films. However, Priyanka initially focused on her studies, aiming to become a criminal psychologist or aeronautical engineer, but fate led her in a different direction.
