Pune: A 31-year-old software engineer from Warje Malwadi was duped of Rs 4.80 lakh by a cybercrook in a credit card fraud.The fraud happened in Jan this year. The accused on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Warje Malwadi police.An officer from the Warje Malwadi police said that in Jan this year, the complainant received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed he was from his bank’s credit card branch. He told the complainant that a protection plan of the latter’s credit card was going to expire. “When the complainant told him that he did not apply for any such plan, the caller told him that the bank activated the plan to his credit card as the latter declined a few transactions,” the officer said.He said that the caller also told the complainant that if he did not cancel the plan, its charges of Rs 3,999 would be directly deducted from his bank account. “The caller then shared a link to cancel the plan. The victim mentioned the details asked in the link. After some time, he received a message from his bank about the transaction of Rs 4.78 lakh made by using his credit card details,” he said.The victim realised that he was duped and approached the police.
