Will they never stop these crass and racist jibes at his skin color in the name of ‘comedy’?
Someone with the amount of influence and clout like Kapil Sharma saying something like this is disappointing and unfortunately, not surprising. https://t.co/63WjcoqHzA

Chinmayi took to her X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Will they never stop these crass and racist jibes at his skin colour in the name of ‘comedy’? Someone with Kapil Sharma’s influence making such remarks is disappointing, though unfortunately, not surprising.” She expressed her disappointment over Kapil’s remark, which she referred to as racially tinted comedy, and voiced her support for Atlee.
In a recent episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Atlee, along with Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, appeared to promote their upcoming film ‘Baby John‘. During the episode, Kapil asked whether any big stars had struggled to recognise Atlee after his success as a filmmaker and producer. Atlee handled the question well, saying that he understood the tone of the inquiry and explained how his first producer, AR Murugadoss, didn’t judge him based on his appearance or capability but appreciated his storytelling. “I think the world should learn not to judge by appearances but by the heart,” the ‘Jawan’ director stated.

After the clip went viral, many social media users supported Atlee, while others criticised Kapil for his tone regarding the filmmaker’s complexion. One social media user wrote, “I watched the episode and felt the same. Maybe Kapil didn’t mean it that way, but he should’ve framed the question much better. He’s known for body-shaming jokes, so this isn’t shocking.”
Another user reacted, “Kapil Sharma may be a nice person, but his show is full of racist, sexist, and body-shaming jokes. His comment reflects the obsession with fair skin in North India.”
Neither Kapil nor Atlee have reacted to the ongoing discussion online.
