Central Reserve Police Force has claimed a major win against Naxals in Bihar

Kolkata:

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has claimed that Bihar is now free from Maoists, the ultra-Left insurgent group. Kuldiep Singh, the Director General of CRPF, said today that the state is now free from Maoists. Addressing the media, the CRPF official said that some Maoists may still be operating as extortion gangs, but currently, there is no area in Bihar where the group is in a position to dominate.

“There is no place in Bihar and Jharkhand where forces cannot reach [the Maoists],” Mr Singh added.

The Naxalite-Maoist insurgency involves conflicts between Maoist groups, known as Naxalites or Naxals, and security forces. The influence zone of the Maoists is spread across ten states, where tribals, police and government workers have been frequently targeted by the Naxals in what they claim is a fight for land rights and employment for poor and neglected agricultural labourers.
