Isolation for Andekar in prison, set to lose rights

Pune: Police have said gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar was allegedly orchestrating attacks on family members of the accused in the Vanraj Andekar murder case, despite being lodged in prison.Resultantly, police have decided to completely isolate him inside the prison, not even allowing him phone calls. No one barring lawyers will be allowed to meet him in prison and his court proceedings will be conducted via video conferencing.Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Monday evening said, “Andekar is lodged in the Dhule prison currently. We will approach the court as well as the prison administration to cut off his outside contacts, especially with his gang members in Pune.”Bandu Andekar, the leader of the Andekar gang, was arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. “He orchestrated the murder of Ganesh Kale and attempted to eliminate an autorickshaw driver, Akshay Balu Mhaske of Balajinagar, in the prison,” Kumar said.“We will request prison authorities to keep him in a solitary cell, produce him for court hearings through video conferencing, and refuse him access to the telephone facility available to inmates. His personal meetings will be limited to his lawyers,” he added.
