Mumbai: A car crashed through the compound wall of Mount Unique building on Peddar Road and plunged 15-20 feet onto the road below near the Kabu Garden area on Monday evening.Rasik Meghani, a resident of the building who was driving the car, sustained a minor head injury. No residents of the building were reported injured in the incident, said police.The incident took place around 7.30pm, when Meghani, who is in his 70s, was exiting the compound. While he claimed that the accelerator got jammed, leaving him unable to brake, sources said that he mistakenly pressed the accelerator, causing the car to surge forward and ram into the compound wall, breaching it before tumbling onto the road below.The building security guard alerted supervisors upstairs, who, in turn, called the police. The guard also helped pull Meghani out of the vehicle even as the building residents gathered at the spot.Meghani was taken to the nearby B D Petit Parsee General Hospital by a resident.Fire brigade and police teams reached the spot shortly after the incident.The compound wall sustained significant structural damage in the impact and repairs are expected to be carried out.The senior police inspector said that an investigation is underway.
