Pune: A set of twins and a 16-year-old boy drowned in separate incidents in the district on Tuesday.In the first incident, twin brother and sister Ganesh and Shravani Sable (both 11) had gone to a lake in Taleraon village of Junnar taluka, around 124km from Pune city. The children had reached the spot around 11 am on Tuesday with their elder sister to wash clothes. While their sister was busy with the activity, the duo entered the water for swimming.However, they failed to gauge the depth of the water and started drowning. “Their sister noticed them struggling and raised an alarm. By the time some villagers reached the spot, both the twins had drowned,” an officer from the Otur police said.He added that the villagers carried out searches in the water and recovered Shravani’s body first. Ganesh’s body was traced after some time. The children’s parents are daily wage workers. “We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard,” the police officer said.In another tragedy, Yash Jadhav (16) of Mumbai drowned in the backwaters of Bhama-Askhed dam at Parale village in Khed taluka on Tuesday afternoon. Jadhav and his friends had come to Parale for a wedding function. None of them knew how to swim. However, Jadhav entered the water and eventually drowned.Teams from groups including Vanya Jeev Rakshak Maval and Shivdurga Mitra, Lonavla, reached the spot and fished out Jadhav’s body from the water. A case of accidental death was later registered with the Mahalunge MIDC police.
