‘Self-radicalised through books, internet’: Man who stabbed security guards near Mumbai acted on jihad ideology, says CM Devendra Fadnavis | Pune News – The Times of India

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the Mira Bhayandar attacker was self-radicalized through online content and driven by the idea of committing ‘Jihad’.

KOLHAPUR: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday that the attacker in Mira Bhayandar near Mumbai, who stabbed two security guards, was “self radicalised by reading books, literature and internet and was driven by the idea to commit Jihad meaning killing persons from other religions.”The Nayanagar police station (Mira Road) has registered a case under sections related to attempt to murder against the accused. Fadnavis told reporters in Solapur on Tuesday, “The ATS, NIA are investigating who is behind this radicalisation and who else have been radicalised,” said the CM. Fadnavis said the parents of the accused live in US and he arrived in India first lived in Kurla and now in Nayanagar.Over the issue of title of Govid Pansare’s book on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj over which Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad threatened and abused publisher, Fadnavis said that no one can disrespect Shivaji Maharaj.“The book was written in 1980s. Digging out the controversy out of it is anti-social and insensitive. It is not proper to take up a non-issue to remain in news. The one who has raked up the issue might not have read the book, those who are protesting don’t know why they are doing” said the CM. The CM is in Solapur to felicitate newly elected members of local bodies.
