Mumbai: Andheri police have arrested a couple over suspicion in the murder case of an elderly woman related to them. The body of the 80-year-old woman was found in a drain during cleaning work in Andheri (E) on April 24. BMC workers involved in the cleaning process alerted the police.The body was moved to Cooper Hospital for an autopsy. Police began making efforts to identify the woman as there was no identification found on her. Her photographs were sent to all police stations. Subsequently, police established her identity on the basis of her bangles. Investigators said her kin had registered a missing complaint about her, and had submitted her photos which showed the bangles clearly. Police said she was single. The post-mortem examination confirmed that the woman had been killed, after which police registered a case of murder. After questioning her relatives, police zeroed down on a couple who could not come up with satisfactory responses.Police suspect the couple assaulted the elderly woman in Jan following a dispute. After her death, they allegedly disposed of her body in a drain. The couple was produced before a magistrate court. Police are now probing the motive for the murder.
