Pune: The Chikhali police have registered a case against a resident of Rupinagar for extorting Rs 7 lakh from a shop owner since March last year.The shop owner approached the police on Monday, when the accused demanded Rs 1.70 lakh more from him.Assistant police inspector Sidhhanath Babar of the Chikhali police said that the shop owner borrowed money from a woman 10 years ago. In March this year, the accused approached him and claimed that he lent that money to the woman. He asked him to return it.“When the complainant told him that he had cleared dues long back and refused to give him the money, the latter threatened him that he would not allow him to run his shop there. He even threatened to implicate him in a false case by planting ganja in his shop,” the officer said.He said that the terrified complainant gave him cash of Rs 7 lakh at different intervals, a mobile handset and a gold ring. The complainant approached the police when the accused demanded Rs 1.70 lakh more from him.“We have issued a notice to the accused. We are also verifying the complainant’s claims,” he said.
