Pune: BJP has further consolidated its control over the civic administration by winning chairmanship of 13 out of 15 ward committees after securing a clear majority in the PMC polls in Jan. NCP and Congress secured a committee each.The names of chairpersons of all 15 ward committeeswere declared on Tuesday following the election for the post in two ward committees. At all other wards (13), the chairpersons were declared unopposed.NCP had raised objections over formation of boundaries for the ward committees and party chief Sunetra Pawar had written to CM Devendra Fadnavis on the issue.After consultations, NCP managed to win the Dhole Patil road ward committee election and party corporator Surekha Kawde became its chairperson. For the Wanowrie ward office, Congress corporator Sahil Kedari was declared the chairperson. Of the 15 ward committees, 10 are chaired by women corporators.A senior BJP corporator said the party was heading the key committees, such as the standing committee, city improvement and law committee. “BJP has given preference to its women corporators to lead the ward committees,” a party corporator said.Each ward committee has two- three wards. The committees look after the overall functioning of the wards.
