Mumbai concert drug overdose case: Police detain 1 person suspected to be link in MDMA supply chain | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: Police investigating the deaths of two students from a suspected drug overdose at a music concert in Goregaon detained for questioning an individual cops believe to be a link in the supply chain of Ecstasy or MDMA. He is being questioned to verify his exact role.Police have so far made six arrests in the case. Those arrested-students Ronak and Pratik, developer Anand Patel, event organiser Vihaan Samal, and senior managerial staff from the venue, Sunny Jain and Balkrishna Kurup- will be produced before a magistrate court on Thursday. The music concert, featuring 999999999 Warehouse Edition, was held on April 11 at an exhibition centre in Goregaon East and had 3,700 visitors. The two deceased students-a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman-were part of a group of 25 MBA students from a prestigious management institute attending the event.Police said the students travelled separately to the event. Investigators said they believe at least four to five of the students consumed Ecstasy pills-some in cars on their way to the concert and others at the event. One of the students, a 25-year-old woman, is currently recuperating in the hospital ICCU after she popped the pill with water at the concert. Some of the students may have mixed the drugs with liquor, police said. Investigations have shown that Ronak gave the pills to two of the women in the group. He told police officials that the pills were given to him by Pratik. Based on inquiries made with Pratik, police arrested Patel for allegedly supplying him with the drug. The individual detained for questioning could be the next link in the supply chain of the drug, officials said. Meanwhile, bodies of the two deceased were handed over to their families after the post-mortem was conducted in-camera. Blood samples, tissues and viscera have been sent to the state forensic laboratory with a request from the police to speed up their chemical analysis. Both the deceased individuals were second-year students at the management institute. The woman hailed from Lucknow. Her parents flew down the body to their hometown. The man hailed from Delhi. He was cremated at Goregaon in the presence of his family with police assistance. “We have formed five to six teams to work on the case and are trying to get to the source of the drug supply chain. More arrests cannot be ruled out,” said a senior police official. So far, police have recorded statements of 12 people in connection with the case.
