PCMC chief suspends 2 engineers over inaction on encroachments | Pune News – The Times of India
Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi has suspended two engineers and issued a show-cause notice to an assistant municipal commissioner for failure to act against encroachments in their jurisdiction. The civic chief had given all three orders on April 10. Civic officials said a junior engineer of the H Ward, Sandip Hazare, was suspended for allegedly leaking confidential information about a proposed anti-encroachment drive. The drive, planned for April 1, had all logistics in place, including staff, vehicles and machinery, they said, adding that officials on the ground faced resistance from locals and alleged pressure from influential persons.“It later emerged that Hazare had shared details of the drive a day in advance, leading to a gathering at the site that disrupted the operation,” the officials said.In a separate case, assistant civil engineer Sheshrao Atkore from the D Ward was suspended for inaction despite receiving complaints about encroachments. Officials said he neither conducted a survey nor initiated any steps to remove illegal structures, prompting disciplinary action. The civic chief also issued a show-cause notice to Tanaji Narale, assistant municipal commissioner heading the E Ward for poor action against unauthorised constructions. In the notice, Suryawanshi underlined that while 572 notices had been issued to the unauthorised structures in the ward, action was taken in only 82 cases.Responding to the notice, Narale clarified on Sunday that around 20 temporary and permanent structures in the flood line and red zone had been demolished in the past 11 days.During a review meeting on pre-monsoon preparedness on Sunday, Suryawanshi directed officials to expedite action against illegal structures obstructing natural drainage channels.“Unauthorised constructions obstruct the flow of drainage channels and worsen the waterlogging problem in the city. Therefore, no leniency should be shown towards such structures,” he said.
