BMC removes Goregaon chowk’s name board blocking footpath in Mumbai on netizen’s complaint | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: The BMC on Sunday removed a board displaying a chowk’s name that was installed diagonally on a footpath in Goregaon West and was obstructing pedestrian movement, in response to a netizen’s complaint.Acknowledging the error in the alignment of Tatyasaheb Joshi Chowk board on M G Road in Unnat Nagar III, municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide posted on X: “Board obstructing pedestrian movement is removed. It should not have happened. However original proper board was shifted & wrongly placed during reconstruction of footpath. All ward level teams hv been strictly advised to be sensitive to public convenience & follow SOP.According to P-South ward officials, the board was wrongly placed during footpath reconstruction work about a year ago.Borivli resident Ajinkya Parulekar, who had highlighted the issue on X, said: “It was glaringly obvious that the board was installed wrongly. Civic officials should be careful about following SOPs.”BMC P-South ward officer Aniruddha Kulkarni admitted that alignment of the board was wrong.“The issue was brought to our notice on Saturday and our ward removed the board on Sunday morning. We will carry out checks across the ward and remove any obstruction found on footpaths,” said Kulkarni.
