Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Nanded police on Friday arrested Indubai Mangnale, the mother of jailed gangster Mukteshwar alias Golu Mangnale, for her alleged involvement in the conspiracy and for funding the murder case of Shiv Sena functionary Aniket alias Sonu Kalyankar on April 6.She was produced before a court on Friday, following which she was remanded to one day of police custody. After the completion of her police remand on Saturday, the court sent her to judicial custody.According to the police, Indubai’s role surfaced during the investigation when officers traced a money trail linked to the murder. Nanded superintendent of police Abinash Kumar said the probe revealed Indubai had withdrawn cash from a bank and handed it over to accused Rohit Lot a few days before the murder. The money was subsequently distributed among other accused, including Piyush Shinde, to carry out the attack. Shinde has now been identified as one of the key conspirators in the case.Aniket alias Sonu Kalyankar was brutally murdered while he was out for a morning walk. He was attacked by multiple assailants armed with sharp weapons on a road opposite Kumar Dresses in the Srinagar area and succumbed to his injuries.According to a complaint lodged by Sonu’s father, Ashok, Sonu had been in a relationship 10 to 12 years ago with a woman belonging to the Mangnale family in Naiknagar. The woman’s family opposed the relationship and later arranged her marriage elsewhere, which got cancelled. They allegedly blamed Sonu for the subsequent cancellation, leading to animosity.In 2020, Chandravijay Mangnale had lodged a case against Sonu at the Airport police station, accusing him of disrupting the marriage alliance. In 2021, Golu and his associates allegedly opened fire at Sonu’s residence in an attempt to kill him. Sonu survived the attack, and a case was registered at the Bhagyanagar police station.Investigators said Chandravijay Mangnale and his son Golu, both history-sheeters, had allegedly been plotting Sonu’s murder for several years. The investigation has now indicated that Indubai played an active role in coordinating and financially supporting the conspiracy.Police said further investigation was underway to uncover the full scope of the conspiracy and to determine whether more individuals were involved in planning and executing the murder.
