Mumbai: A Badlapur-bound suburban fast local on Central Railway overshot Platform 3 on the down through fast line at Vikhroli railway station on Saturday evening, briefly affecting services during the peak hour. According to railway inputs, train number BD 37 crossed the designated halt point at 5.52 pm and went ahead by nearly four coaches. The train was brought to a halt after the guard applied the emergency brake at 5.52 pm. Officials said the rake was then detained at Bhandup railway station from 5.52 pm to 6 pm before normal movement was restored on the section. No injuries or any untoward incident were reported. However, the overshoot is likely to have caused minor bunching of fast services on the Central line between Vikhroli railway station and Bhandup railway station during the evening rush. Railway authorities are expected to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the local crossing the platform by a length of four coaches.
