Citizens to gather at Mumbai’s Versova Beach to protest mangrove cutting for coastal road project | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: A group of citizens will gather at Versova Beach on Sunday evening, April 12, to raise awareness against the ongoing cutting of mangroves for the Versova–Bhayander Coastal Road project. The gathering, a citizen-led initiative, aims to highlight the importance of preserving habitats for birds, animals, and insects that are an integral part of the city’s ecosystem.Participants have been encouraged to show their support through creative posters and placards. While digitally designed materials are welcome, AI-generated content has been discouraged. “This is a call for citizens to come together, engage, and stand up for the green spaces that sustain Mumbai’s future,” said one of the organisers.Meanwhile, Mili Shetty, a local resident from Charkop, said she has been witnessing the cutting of mangroves daily from her home. She added that what was once a vibrant and healthy neighbourhood now faces uncertainty as its green cover continues to be reduced.
