Pune: The Nigdi police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man from Jalgaon on the charge of attempting to extort Rs 1 lakh from an eatery owner. A 23-year-old woman, who runs the eatery, lodged a complaint with the police.An officer from the Nigdi police said that the woman runs an eatery at Yamunagar in Nigdi. On April 4, the accused went to the eatery and demanded Rs 1 lakh from the woman, if she wanted to continue operating there. He even threatened to kill her and ransack the eatery, if she did not give him money. “Initially, the woman did not pay heed to him. When the accused started harassing her continuously, she approached us and lodged a complaint,” the officer said.He said that the accused has been charged under Section 308 (extortion attempt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
